oh man silverstein rocks. (said while running to stereo and putting in their cd . . . . aaaaahhhh) this photos awsome though. i like how the house lights make it red and the movement is awsome. maybe compositionally woulda been a bit better to frame it more to the right so those lights arent in it and you get more of the space in front of him. thats just me though. still an awsome shot.

Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. Hell yeah Silverstein's great, I hadn't heard much of them until that show, and I was pretty blown away.

But yeah, I'm new to both photography, and shooting at concerts...plus I still don't know the in's and out's of my camera, so I really surprised I got what I did with those pics. I think they could've been a lot better, but I don't yet know how to adjust shudder speed/etc. so the the camera doesn't pick up so much blurriness. And the camera pauses a bit before it takes the pic, so I miss a lot of good shots. I really should read the manual, eh?

I look forward to shooting at the upcoming Thrice/Poison the Well/Darkest Hour show...and hopefully I will know what I'm doing a little more, and get some better pics out of it!

oh man. i envy you for getting to see thrice. i saw them back in october with thursday and coheed and it was phenominal. one of the things that helps eliminate the lag between hitting the shudder and the actual release is to half press the shudder so it focuses and meters for you and then when you press it the rest of the way it will snap alot quicker. so hold it there till you want to actually take the picture then it should be better. also, for concerts, if you can stop the aperture down to the widest you can. for me its f/2.0 which works well. if your using film try something really high iso or if its digital set it as high as you can. check out the two most recent ones in my gallery if you want. theyre from my first concert with a camera and im pretty pleased with how they turned out.

and most of all dont let having a camera take over. thrice is too good only to be seen through a viewfinder.

Alright, once I figure out how all that works, I'll give it a shot. Oh, and your pics of Bright Eyes put mine to shame alright, good work! I might try a few black and white next time...

That's some very sound advice. At that FATA show, I was spending way too much time trying to get decent pics instead of just enjoying the concert. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it very much...but I still need to figure out a balance, heh. I'll definitely try not to make the same mistake at the Thrice show, as they are one of my favorite bands...

Thanks for all the advice btw.
